ARF member Steve Foley will be speaking at this event about flying rescue missions. He will also be be arranging ground transportation between Lawrence Municipal Airport (KLWM) and the school for anyone who wants to fly in and attend. Be sure to RSVP if you'd like to attend and note whether you'll be flying or driving. If you're flying in, call Steve at 774-275-0711 for ground transportation...and please plan for an 8:00 arrival.” See the flyer here. From last year's event: A group of children watched closely as Karen Smith demonstrated how to approach an unfamiliar dog, walking up slowly and curving to the right just before she reached a large, furry Akita. The dog greeted her with a nuzzle and audience members lined up to get their turns at practicing "pet etiquette." More than 50 children got their first lessons in respecting and understanding animals yesterday as the Massachusetts School of Law hosted its second annual Animal Rights Day. While pet trick, police dog and agility demonstrations were geared more toward the children, the event also featured discussions on the prosecution of animal cruelty, no-kill shelters, the practice of animal law, the rescue of a pit bull and animals as property for adults. About 300 people and several bassett hounds, poodles, bull dogs and border collies traveled from all over New England to attend the one-of-a-kind event. The law school started hosting the symposiums after professor Diane Sullivan of North Andover started a popular animal law program at the school. "She's become nationally known," school spokesman Kirby Smith said. "Programs like this are a part of how she is educating people."

ARF Pilots, Many of you have been transporting for ARF for a while now and some of you transport on the side for shelters and rescues that contact you directly. Some of you are new to ARF and may be new to animal transport. Thanks for all you do for the animals and will do for the animals...we appreciate you very much. In case you haven't yet had a chance to become educated on some of the important things to know with respect to animal transport, we'd like to go through a couple of key areas with you: 1) Common Diseases, what to look for, how to avoid 2) Animal Transport Laws These are two areas of extreme importance and we hope you'll spend 30 - 45 minutes with us this Sunday evening at 7pm Eastern. Dial-in information will be sent to all pilots who RSVP "yes" to this meeting. It will not be a toll-free number so we will be sure to keep the training session in the 30 - 45 minutes range. Please RSVP as early as only 20 ports are available for our conference bridge for this session. Depending on demand, we'll set up another training session for those that don't RSVP in time for this one. Thank you! Julia and Clark ARF

Hi everyone, It looks pretty windy out there so I am sure some of you are wondering if you want to fly to Flying W today. The runway there is 1/19 and the winds are likely to be gusting to 30 kts by the time we show up. The nearest TAF is at KPNE (KVAY shows similar winds): KPNE 241154Z 29011KT 10SM SCT110 07/M04 A2993 RMK AO2 SLP137 T00721044 10089 20067 53032 KPNE 241130Z 2412/2512 30012G22KT P6SM SCT050 SCT120 BKN200 FM241400 31016G30KT P6SM BKN050 FM241900 32014G24KT P6SM SCT060 TEMPO 2419/2422 BKN060 FM250200 32012KT P6SM SKC So, we are going to move this event to tomorrow at 10am. If you and your plane can handle the wind today, feel free to fly there and leave your donations at the airport office. Thank you! Julia ARF -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- ---------- It's always a good time to visit the Flying W Airport with its Avion Restaurant, and this special one-time event makes it even more worthwhile, particularly for dog owners and animal lovers! Animal Rescue Flights (ARF) is teaming up with The Northeast Pilots Group (NEPG) and MOMS (Making of Miracle Stories) of Hammonton, NJ for "Paws For A Cause" to collect much needed supplies for Georgia animal shelters. MOMS so far has rescued 80 puppies and dogs, some who were literally 3 minutes from gas chambers, by bringing them to the Northeast in vans where adopting families are waiting. Instead of sending these vans back empty, we want to collect donations of old blankets and bags of dog food which are desperately needed by these shelters. Please join us for lunch at the Flying W Airport (N14) this Saturday beginning at 11am and bring whatever you can in the way of old blankets and bags of dog and puppy food. As a bonus, you can get 15% off your lunch bill by downloading and ! This event is one the whole family can appreciate and enjoy. Please invite family and friends to come along. Reservations for lunch are suggested by calling (609-267-8787). This event is open to anyone. Additional information: Our "Paws For A Cause" fly-in event is scheduled four days before a gala event for 900 people including retired professional athletes, and some of the Rescue Ink members. It will be held at St. Joseph Elementary school in Hammonton, NJ on January 28th from 630pm - 830pm in the school auditorium. The grand finale will be a video production showing the animal's "walks to freedom" starting behind the "prison wall."

FOR ALL ARF PILOTS AND GROUND CREW WITHIN DRIVING/FLYING DISTANCE OF ANDERSON, SC: The Anderson County Animal Shelter is in dire need of puppy food! The shelter has already taken close to 150 puppies already since the beginning of the year and its NOT puppy season. The shelter does not have a puppy food supply and they are scrambling to feed all these pups on a very limited budget. The shelter is also in need of blankets for moms/pups so they don't have to be on the concrete floors while nursing. This shelter is 501c3, so all donations are tax deductable. If you are local and can foster, it would be greatly appreciated! FOR ALL ARF MEMBERS WHO CAN'T GET THERE IN PERSON BUT WANT TO HELP: Via Paypal, you can make a monetary donation to rhonda@freedomtraint ransports.com. Rhonda has an amazing team of drivers that transport dogs every weekend from the area. She works very closely with the Anderson shelter to save as many animals as possible. I can ASSURE you that your money will go towards the food or blankets this shelter needs. If you would rather reach the shelter to talk about donation, email Michelle Shead mshead@andersoncount ysc.org or call the shelter at 864-260-4151.

Amy from Echo Dogs White Shepherd Rescues contacted us about "Samson", a five month old pup she has been fostering until he could be adopted to a forever home. Samson's time has come! This will be a two step process beginning with his transport to southern Connecticut, then after an overnight layover, he continues to Baltimore-Washington Airport where his adopters will be eagerly waiting!

To all ARF members, We hope you will join us on our weekly conference call, set up on a consistent schedule so that we can quickly and efficiently discuss the following things: - Transport successes - Transport projects in the works - New transport projects, if needed Members who are actively planning transports and participating in transports will find this call invaluable as you work to accomplish your chosen tasks. It will be easy for you to get information and advice from the ARF team. If you are new to ARF, this call is a great way to learn more about what we do and how we do it and to get more involved. We expect these calls to be no more than 30 minutes long. They will start at 8pm Eastern time, so as to allow our members in Central, Mountain and Pacific Time Zones to join us after work. Occasionally, we will invite a special speaker typically a rescue who looks to ARF for transport assistance to join us and tell us about their organization. At 8pm Eastern, dial 1 (218) 486-1600 and follow instructions. The access code is 438704. Thanks so much for using your time and skills towards helping animals in need. No animal left behind, Julia and Clark
