Hi Dave, I just checked the TAFs for your route of flight tomorrow (krdg kabe kswf kpou kbaf kmht kpwm kiwi) and it looks like it's not going to be good flying wx until 2200 in Pennsylvania. Too bad the wx is going to be bad in Pennsylvania because it looks pretty nice otherwise. I'm wondering if we could maybe do this as a relay...if you could get Lorelie to Clark and me (KBDR or KHPN) tomorrow evening then we can work to get her to KIWI or at least to somewhere around Boston (KOWD maybe) and perhaps Mark could help transport Lorelie by car from there...or maybe Jane can come down and pick her up from Boston. Let me know what you think about this. KRDG to KBDR is 138nm and there is a nice restaurant near the airport if you want to have dinner with a pilot or two before you head home tomorrow evening.

I have emailed Jane asking how far she or a volunteer of her org is able to drive for pick up.
Kathy, Jane and Mark's numbers are available in email. Any final word on weather. I will be at work and not available at all (new job, no calls or email) this afternoon 1pm to 5 pm CST. Kathy and Jane would have to be contacted directly if something came together. I would not be able to get the message to them. If the weather doesnt work with us what is plan B? Should i try to put together ground transport for the weekend? what do you think? |

Dave Kalbach sent you this message from Animal Rescue Flights
on Meetup.com: -------------------------------------- Julia, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I was communicating via email from my cell phone after work, and did not have access to the web board. I will watch the weather closely tomorrow and may be able to make the trip if I can leave earlier in the day before 1600 hrs. If tomorrow does not work, can we postpone the trip until Sunday morning. Kathy and I will be heading up to Republic (KFRG - I think) to see the Blue Angels flying at Jones Beach in NY. That field is just South of your position, or perhaps someone in the group will be flying down for the airshow as well. Quick question for you. When you take one of these animals on their trip and someone you meet along the way would like to keep them as a pet, what are you to do? Do we just deliver, or is any good home better than the shelters we are transporting to? Thanks Dave -------------------------------------- Edited by Julia Ryan on May 20, 2008 10:39 AM |

Hi Dave,
Are you instrument rated? At 1600Z, here are the forecasted conditions for KRDG and KABE: KRDG 201125Z 201212 VRB03KT P6SM SCT035 OVC070 TEMPO 1316 4SM -RA BR OVC035 FM1600 03005KT 4SM -RA BR OVC035 TEMPO 1618 2SM RA BR OVC010 FM2200 33005KT P6SM BKN045 FM0900 28005KT P6SM SCT045 BKN060 KABE 201125Z 201212 VRB03KT P6SM SCT080 BKN150 FM1300 13004KT P6SM SCT035 OVC070 TEMPO 1517 4SM -RA BR OVC035 FM1700 03006KT 4SM -RA BR OVC035 TEMPO 1718 2SM RA BR OVC010 FM2200 33005KT P6SM BKN045 FM0900 28005KT P6SM SCT045 BKN060 If you think you can get out of KRDG at 1600Z, then you'll be fine the rest of the way...clouds will be around 3500 along some of your route but that's doable VFR. If you can't get all the way to KIWI, you can drop the dog in Boston and Mark can take Lorelei by car, meeting Jane in the middle somewhere. Another option is to drop her at KBDR with me and Clark and I will work on getting her the rest of the way. If you want to bring Lorelei up on Sunday to KFRG, that will probably work as well. The weather this weekend looks great and we'll have a lot of people at the airshow. Clark and I might be there...still TBD. I will touch base with Jane to see what her plans are for Sunday and early next week. Let us know what your plan is. Be safe. Julia |

When transporting an animal and you happen to fall in love (it happens) you still ahve to go ahead with delivery and go through proper channels unless it is discussed in advance.
Each animal when it enters rescue (good rescues) will have all vetting finished up that isnt already up to date (heart-worm checks, fecal exams, boretella etc) Then the animal will be evaluated as to what its needs are prior to placement. Some need animal socialization and others just need to be able to trust humans again. There are times that rescues also have applications on file for people waiting for certain breeds or a certain temperament of animal for their family (good with kids, younger, older, calm, active) then as each dog is evaluated and ready for adoption they will invite each potential family that they feel would be best suited to meet the dog in person. they then evaluate the interaction or the family and of other pets they might bring along. even for the less reputable rescues they normally at least get an application and get the dog altered. |

Response from Jane: (receiver)
Hi, Krystal - it all depends on timing - we have kennel hours, etc. so may have to have a volunteer help, and do not know who/what to ask until we know what direction the transport is taking. Will keep watching my mail, Jane ----- Original Message ----- From: Krystal McClain To: jpeabody@tidewater.net Sent: Tuesday, May 20, 2008 10:10 AM Subject: picking up lorelie how far are you or a volunteer able to drive to meet mark to get lorelei today/ tonight? it sounds like weather is a snag but they are still trying to figure out something. Hi Mark, thanks for the info. I just left a message for Jane to call me. I'll let you know what we can work out when Jane returns my call. The weather forecast looks great Friday - Monday so I'm sure either Clark or I would be able to do a flight one of those days.
Thank you, Julia |
