10th Annual Standing on a Corner in Winslow, AZ Festival

The town of Winslow (pop. 8,190) was founded in 1882 as a railroad terminal, and named after the president of the St Louis and San Francisco Railroad. But mention the name "Winslow, Arizona" and it's sure to trigger the musical response, "Standin'-On-A-Corner-In-Winslow, Arizona..." The lyrics from the song "Take It Easy", written by Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey, were made famous by "The Eagles". The corner is now the "Standin On a Corner Park", where tourists can take a photo to capture the moment. For more information, visit the 10th Annual Standin' on the Corner Festival web site! Optional Excursion: A meteor crater was created near present-day Winslow about 50,000 years ago during the Pleistocene epoch when the local climate on the Colorado Plateau was much cooler and damper. At the time, the area was an open grassland dotted with woodlands inhabited by woolly mammoths, giant ground sloths, and camels. It was uninhabited by humans. The crater is located about 25 miles west of Winslow. With the courtesy station wagon, we could definitely visit it in person. If not, we'll do a "circle-around-a-point-fly-by" for the best possible view of it anyway!
