Are you aware of all the regulations and recommended practices for operating at non-towered airports? How about the local procedures that apply to your airport? Attend this informative briefing presented by North Carolina FAASTeam Program Manager Bob Sutherlin. Bob will discuss non-towered operations at Sanford-Lee County Airport.

Based at TTA is everything from flight training to screamin' corporate jets along with an increasing volume of light sport aircraft. Come join a preventative effort to mitigate risk on an evening that aims to bring all of the airport's traffic together...not literally...out of the cockpit and on the ground that is...to improve and establish harmony in flight.

EAA Chapter 1114 meeting

Topic: Aircraft Fuels
Presenter: Kent Misegades
Date: Saturday, October 17, 2009
Time: Breakfast (donations requested) @ 8:30AM, Presentation @ 9:30AM

Program: Despite the sun burning through here, Mitch Lock of Van's Aircraft is stuck under a low rainy ceiling in Maryland that is going to persist until early next week. We have therefore postponed his visit for our November 21st meeting. Jonathan Trappe still plans to launch his weather balloon from Cox Field at 9AM tomorrow. The speaker will be Kent Misegades giving a 45 minute talk I gave this summer at AirVenture on the subject of aircraft fuels, especially on the many complicated and confusing aspects of ethanol blends.

This course will carefully introduce interested pilots to the regulatory, practical, and operational issues involved with becoming a certificated Commercial Pilot. As with all Club ground schools, there will be an emphasis on real-life situations and safety.

This course is aimed both at the pilot looking towards a professional career in aviation AND the pilot who simply wants to increase his or her knowledge about the world of commercial aviation. All are welcome.

It runs from:
Sep 9 - Nov 9
7pm - 10pm

This is an 8 week 3 hour per lesson class. It is thorough examination of many aspects and is NOT a simplified cram course for exclusively passing the written exam.

Although guest instructors will present some information, the primary instructor for the course will be John Hunter who is an A&P and CFII. You can learn more from John by contacting him at 919-818-7203.

The cost for the class is $195.

Typically attending these cookouts are 40-50 pilots including CFII's, A&P's, Aviation Insurance Experts, and AME's (aero medical examiners) with whom you can rub elbows.

The Wings of Carolina Flying Club hosts cookouts on the second Saturday of each month at the WCFC Flight Center (rain or shine). Food is served from noon-1pm. ($5). People often come early and stay late to socialize / hangar fly. We occasionally have special programs or speakers. This is a great opportunity to meet club members, other local pilots, and people interested in the club and aviation. Anyone is welcome to attend.

In addition to helping you pass the private pilot written exam, this class will give you hands education in the club's planes and under the "hood" off the planes to make you a safer/better pilot.

If you can't make the first class - starting the following week is fine.

The cost for the class is $195 for non-club members and $180 for club members. This is payable by check or cash.

If you want to join the club and take flying lessons in conjunction with the ground school you are welcome to do so.

The class will typically meet Wednesday nights from 7pm until 10pm through December 10. It will be held at the club.

See the website for detailed directions: www.wingsofcarolina.org

Wings of Carolina's next club trip will be to the Flying Circus Airshow near Warrenton, VA. We will fly into Warrenton-Fauquier airport (KHWY). Our destination is roughly 190 nm North of Sanford, which will be a nice flight for most any aircraft.

The trip is scheduled for Sunday August 30th. We will depart around 8:30 9:00 in the morning and will arrive roughly two hours later depending on which plane you are in. The airshow starts at 2:30 PM. Prior to the show, open cockpit airplane rides are available for a fee. What fun to experience an era gone by in a Stearman or Waco biplane! For the adventurous members, aerobatic rides are also available!

A concession stand is on site for lunch. Burgers, hot dogs, drinks and other fair are available for purchase. Admission to the show is $10, children 3 12 are $3.

If you are interested in joining us please send me an email with your name and club member number (if you have one) along with what plane you want to fly/ride in (student pilots are welcome). The trip in club planes is open to all members and their families. You are welcome to bring your own plane and join us. For scheduling purposes I need to have a head count by August 9th.
Please be aware that KHWY is within the Washington DC SFRA. All pilots are required to take the online course before flying into this area (and have your course certificate with you).

For more information on the airshow, go to: http://www.flyingcircusairshow.com. If you have any questions, please call David Greenfield at 919-696-7390.
